I've yet to find an app or method in OSX that extracts that information and append it to the file name automatically through batch. But what I would prefer is to retrieve the bit rate tag from the file itself, so I can sort my nearly 20.000 albums by best quality (many are duplicates). I can of course append text to files, I do that all the time. So the issue of the bit rate missing is not there - probably not at all. As far as I can tell, all my files do have a bit rate assigned to them. I can't remember coming across a mp3 file without a bit rate tag assigned to it. The only way to change the bit rate of a file is to re-encode it, which means creating another file. For that reason, it cannot be edited - but it can be retrieved.
